Steve Janz, Lead Pastor: Steve was born in Alberta but grew up in southern Germany as an MK. He moved back to Canada and, after college, started pastoring in 1987. Georgetown, PEI, and Brandon, MB were ministry points for him before coming to TAC in 2000. Steve has been married to Sarah for 21 years and they have 3 children, Tyler, Denver, and Anna. Steve gets great joy out of preaching and teaching God's truth and understanding clearly that these are gifts from God. Giving leadership and seeing people come to trust Jesus alone for salvation are also high priorities for him. More than anything, he desires that the banner of God's glory would permeate everything that happens at TAC. Steve also enjoys savoring God's grace through the outdoors (camping, fishing, hunting, skiing), through a good cup of coffee, by watching sports with his sons, and by going on dates with Sarah and Anna. He claims that playing with his '72 Datsun 510 is also therapeutic. Steve's life verses are 1 Corinthians 1:26-2:5 "…so that, just as it is written, "Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord."
Gary Harris, Assistant Pastor: Gary is from the East Coast, the East side of Prince Edward Island to be exact. He has been married to Trisha (another "Islander") since 1996. Gary and Trisha have 3 children - Wesley, Chloe, and Caleb. Gary transitioned from his career as a professional scuba diver into ministry in 2000. Since 2003, he's been TAC's Assistant Pastor, with a primary focus on the youth. He's passionate about seeing young people come into a right relationship with Christ and seeing youth who are Christ-followers transformed into the image of Jesus. He loves to hang-out with family and friends, play sports, read, and spend time with family. Gary and his family are avid campers and love to experience God's glory through His magnificent creation. His heart is encouraged by these favorite verses: "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7
Janelle Hoos, Director of Children's Ministries: Janelle was born in Edmonton but grew up in small towns throughout Western Canada. She graduated from Canadian Bible College with a degree in religious education and worked with children as a professional caregiver and a volunteer educator. She is married to Aaron and they share a passion for books and coffee. Janelle also has a passion to see children grow in their relationships with God and with others and her ministry stretches beyond teaching children to include equipping parents and teachers as well. She feels that the children of today are the world-changing believers of tomorrow and her passion is echoed in Psalm 78:4-7: “We will not hide these truths from our children but will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord. We will tell of his power and the mighty miracles he did… so the next generation might know them – even the children not yet born – that they in turn might teach their children. So each generation can set its hope anew on God…” (NLT).
Doug Smart, Pastor of Community Life: Doug was born and raised in Scotland until his parents immigrated to Winnipeg when he was a teenager. Doug has been married to Esther for 46 years and they have 2 children, Mike, Shelly, and 4 grandchildren; and their third child, Grant, has gone to be with the Lord. Doug came to salvation at TAC more then 30 years ago and has been serving part time as Pastor of Community Life since 2002. Connecting with newcomers to the church, helping people fit in at TAC, and counseling people occupies the majority if his time. Doug's passion is to see people come to faith in Jesus and to help them grow in their walk with Him. He also loves to invest in younger men's lives in a mentoring role. He enjoys hanging-out with family and friends, working out at the local YMCA, and watching a soccer match or a good 12-round boxing bout on TV. Doug is an avid reader and consumes many books every year. As well, fishing with his grandson is an annual highlight! Doug loves life and his favorite passage is Psalm 16. One of the verses that stands out is: "The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me."
Sondee Comrie, Office Administrator: Sondee is a life-long Winnipeg resident. Although she no longer lives in Transcona, she still feels at home at TAC. Married to Kevin for 26 years, they are very proud of their daughters and sons-in-law, Chelsea (and Jason) and Randi (and Josh). Serving as office administrator is one of the ways she helps to fulfill her passion for seeing God's church grow. Sondee loves to have fun with family and friends and is dedicated to seeing the next generation come to Christ. Sondee lives and breathes by the inspirational Isaiah 40:31, which says, "but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
